What is "Sustainable"?
We hear so many buzzwords about health and food in our society: organic, sustainable, green, environmentally friendly, and farm to table. What do these words mean? What do they mean for the environment? What do they mean for us as a society, as a community, and as individual consumers? In a series of on-location interviews, we will connect with local farmers and sustainable food producers for The Watershed Cafe, to take a closer look at where our food comes from. Through these interviews, we can gain a better understanding of the many ways we support community and conserve our environment by growing and buying good food.
As you will soon learn, sustainability refers to life-long practices that promote the health and well-being of animals, land, and people. These practices may include hand-weeding, using organic materials to improve soil, generating energy with solar power, being involved in life systems, and supporting local economy and community. Each of our farmers, local food producers, and sustainable sources offer unique products and ways of life, and each of their stories are compelling. We look forward to sharing these stories with you through our blog!
