The Story of "The Robin"
Earlier this year, The Watershed Cafe came up with a new menu item called The St. Croix Sandwich - a featured sandwich that rotates daily and expands our lunch special options. I sat down with Rita and Steve Rasmuson to discuss the hatching of "The Robin", a unique sandwich to The Watershed Cafe and the featured St. Croix Sandwich on Wednesdays.
Rita and Steve explained that they were looking for something brand new, a sandwich that had never been made before. They kept coming back to their award-winning Reuben Sandwich and its turkey alternative, The Rachel. "What if we combined the two?" Steve said.
When the challenge of naming the new sandwich arose, Rita and Steve asked the staff: "What do you get when a Reuben sandwich and a Rachel sandwich get married?" Will, a valued staff member responded, "A Robin!"
And so, this collaboration from the staff created an original Watershed special that blends a Reuben and a Rachel together called "The Robin." This spectacular special is The St. Croix Sandwich featured on Wednesdays and is made up of corned beef and turkey, with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing sandwiched between pumpernickel and sourdough bread, and served hand-cut fries.
